Why are barns red?

Have you ever wondered why almost every barn you have ever seen is usually red? Think that it may be because of superstition, like maybe red is a color that appeases to the God of Fire for protection against... fire. Well, you wouldn't be correct in your assumption. Turns out barns are painted red because red paint is the cheapest paint available for purchase. Why is the red paint cheaper?
